Our Story

In 1989, inspired by the needs of his growing family, Tom Alkema left the family greenhouse founded by his father and purchased five acres of land in the east end of St. Catharines. There, he started his own greenhouse operation: Linwell Gardens. Tom built the business with a simple but strong vision — to propagate high-quality plant material and operate with the old-fashioned values of integrity, honesty, and hard work.

Today, that same foundation continues through the next generation as his son, George, leads Linwell Gardens forward. Under his leadership, the company continues to honor those original values while embracing greater efficiency, strong business insight, and technological innovation.

Although the original St. Catharines farm has since been sold, Linwell Gardens continues to grow and thrive from its Beamsville location. With over 16 acres of growing capacity, Linwell has become one of the largest propagators of vegetative liners in Canada.

Through all that growth, the company remains committed to the same standard of quality that Tom envisioned from the very beginning.

Supported by a dedicated team, a spirit of innovation, and a desire to keep improving, George and his family proudly carry on the tradition that began more than 30 years ago.
